WSU offers programs and resources that first-gen students can use to get involved, connect, and find support. The following programs are primarily based in Pullman.
Support Programs
- College Assistance Migrant Program (CAMP)
Provides academic and financial support to first-year students from migrant and seasonal farmworker backgrounds, many of whom are first-gen.
- College Success Foundation (CSF) Achievers While not exclusive to first-gen students, this program serves many who are first-gen by focusing on college retention and graduation for low-income students.
- Cougar Money Matters
WSU’s financial literacy and wellness program designed to empower students—especially first-generation and low-income students—with tools to manage their finances. It offers workshops, online resources, and personalized support to help students budget, understand credit, and plan for their financial futures. - First-Gen Abroad
WSU’s study abroad program for students who are the first in their family to attend college. Our four-week summer programs are specifically designed to be affordable, relevant, and fun. - Passport to College
Supports former foster youth, unaccompanied refugees, and unaccompanied unhoused youth—many of whom are first-gen students—through advising, scholarships, and community-building programs. - Team Mentoring Program (TMP)
Open to all students, the Team Mentoring Program is committed to broadening and enhancing access for all students in Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics, and Pre-Health. - TRIO SSS Classic and TRIO SSS Disability at WSU
A federally funded program that offers individualized support for first-gen, low-income students, and students with documented disabilities. Services include advising, tutoring, and other assistance to complete your Bachelor's degree.- McNair Scholars
Supports students in getting research experience and preparing for graduate school, including help attaining funding and creating competitive graduate school applications. - STEM Student Support Services (SSS)
Supports first-gen, low-income, and/or disabled students pursuing degrees in STEM fields. Includes tutoring, workshops, and research opportunities. - Teacher Prep SSS
For first-generation, low-income students preparing for careers in teaching. Offers academic advising, mentoring, and professional development. - Veterans SSS
Provides tailored support for first-gen, low-income, and/or disabled student veterans. Offers academic guidance, counseling, and career prep. - Find a full list of TRIO programs at all WSU campuses.

College-Based Programs
- CAHNRS Community Scholarship
Supports first-generation and underrepresented students within the College of Agricultural, Human, and Natural Resource Sciences. Focuses on mentorship, academic success, and career preparation.
- Carson EDGE
A program in the Carson College of Business designed to help first-generation and underrepresented students successfully transition into college. It provides academic support, mentoring, and career readiness. - Murrow First
Hosted by the Edward R. Murrow College of Communication, Murrow First supports first-generation students with mentoring, networking, and academic resources tailored to communication majors.
