Faculty and staff in all areas of WSU play a key role in creating a welcoming and supportive environment for first-gen students.
It is crucial to acknowledge that a student’s experience is not the same as their potential. Racism, classism, and other systems of oppression may mean that many first-gen students come to WSU without some of the same skills or knowledge as their peers, but their facility with navigating higher education systems is not the same as their intelligence or ability.
